Often peer athletes, who assist players with physical and developmental challenges during baseball games. Their roles is to help with batting, base-running, and fielding, but only as needed, allowing the Challenger players to participate to the best of their abilities and experience the joys of baseball.
KEY ASPECTS OF THE CHALLENGER BUDDY ROLE:
Assistance:
Buddies provide support with batting, base running, and fielding, adjusting their level of help based on each player's needs.
Encouragement:
They encourage players to participate actively and make their own plays, while being readily available to offer assistance.
Friendship:
Beyond physical support, buddies often form friendships with the Challenger players, fostering a positive and inclusive environment.
Flexibility:
The level of assistance varies; some players might need significant help, while others might only require occasional guidance.
Focus on Fun:
The Challenger Program is a non-competitive program where the main goal is for players to have fun and enjoy the game.
No Baseball Experience Needed:
While some buddies are Little League players, no prior baseball experience is required, just a willingness to help and be a friend.
Challenger Buddies under the age of 18 are NOT required to complete any background or clearance checks.
